Is Email Marketing Still Worth It In 2026?

Yes, email marketing is still effective and absolutely worth it in 2026.

I get why people ask though. Every year there’s a new platform, a new algorithm change, a new reason everyone says social media marketing is dying. And every year, my email list is still the thing consistently making me money in both of my businesses.

Marketing is more than social media. When people think of marketing, many think of platforms like Instagram or TikTok. But email marketing is the puzzle piece of the bigger picture that is going to make marketing and sales so much easier in your business.

I’m not asking you to take my word for it. I’m going to walk you through real examples, mine and one of my student’s, of what email marketing actually did this year. By the end of this, you’ll see exactly why I still build my business around my subscriber list first.

What Makes Email Marketing Still Work Now

I prioritize email marketing because it is where your audience gets to be the first to know what you have coming.

Think about the last time you were genuinely excited to open an email versus scrolling past ten Instagram posts without really looking at any of them. That’s the difference. Social media is public and passive, but email is private and direct.

Email marketing can give people exclusivity. Before I ever post something on Instagram, my email list already knows about it. They get to feel like insiders instead of finding out with everybody else.

So when someone asks me if email marketing still works in 2026, my answer is always yes. I cannot imagine running either of my businesses without it. It’s the best way to reach the ideal clients that have already want to hear from you. They opted in to saying yes to hear from you. Emails get opened and read, regardless of which social media platform is trending. If you’ve been on the fence about whether it’s worth the effort to build and grow a list, I can tell you it 100% is.

Keep reading to hear case studies of how one of my students’ sold out an in-person event, and how I sold out 80% of one offer with just one email.

How Effective Is Email Marketing Compared to Social Media?

When people think marketing, they think social media…but email marketing is the puzzle piece of your bigger picture that most people don’t take seriously enough.

Social media is the loud, visible part of marketing. It’s the part everyone sees, so it’s the part everyone assumes is doing all the work. But email is the piece working behind the scenes.

Only 1-3% of your followers see any single post you make on Instagram. Compare that to email, where 20-30% of your list actually opens what you send. That’s not a small difference. Email gives you a direct line to the people who actually want to hear from you.

Marketing isn’t just social media, even though that’s what gets talked about the most. Marketing is every piece that moves someone from knowing you exist to actually buying from you. Email is one of the most effective ways to do that because it’s reaching the people who’ve already raised their hand, shown interest, and said yes to having you in their inbox.

So if you’ve been putting all your energy into your Instagram strategy and treating email like an afterthought, this is your sign to flip that. Social media gets you discovered. Email marketing is what actually converts that discovery into a relationship and, eventually, a sale.

Can Email Marketing Actually Sell Out an Event?

Yes, one of my students sold out her first in-person event from her email list, twice, at a $250 ticket.

Here’s how she did it. She created a waitlist for the event first, which let her see exactly how much interest there was before she ever opened sales. From there, she sent private, one-on-one DM invitations to the people on that waitlist, giving them first dibs. Only after that did she open it up and send it to her entire list.

That sequence matters. She didn’t blast one email to everyone and hope for the best. She built anticipation, gave her most interested people the first shot, and let that momentum carry into the wider list.

And here’s the bigger reason this works. You own your email list. You don’t own social media. (Worth repeating.)

If a platform changes its algorithm tomorrow, or disappears entirely, you lose access to every person who followed you there. Your email list doesn’t disappear. It’s yours, it stays yours, and no platform update can take it away from you.

So if you don’t have a list yet, or yours is still small, that’s exactly where to start. Here are the 5 best types of freebies to grow your email list, because the sooner you start building something you actually own, the sooner you can create moments like this one for your own offers.

How Fast Can Email Marketing Actually Generate Sales?

Within the first 24 hours of emailing just my past clients about my mini sessions, I had 5 sales.

That’s not a fluke, and it kept converting well past that first day. We ended up with 16 total bookings, and as of writing this, only 4 spots are left. Seven of those clients added on the extra gallery option too. (Seven!) All of that came from one email, sent to one segment, my past clients.

But here’s the part that actually proves email marketing works. One of those bookings came from a client who’d had that email sitting in her inbox for over a week. She wasn’t actively looking for it. She found it while cleaning out her inbox, and she booked. Email marketing is working for you even when you’re not posting on social media. That email was still doing its job days later, with zero extra effort from me.

That’s the kind of return you don’t get from a single Instagram post, which has a shelf life of maybe a day before it disappears into the feed. An email sits in someone’s inbox until they’re ready for it.

If you want to see exactly how I nurture my list to get results like this, here’s my full breakdown of how I use Flodesk to grow my email list.

What’s My Next Step If I’m Ready to Take Email Marketing Seriously?

Start building or nurturing the list you already have, because everything above happened because someone had a list to email in the first place.

A student sold out her event twice because she had a list to invite. I generated sales in 24 hours, and kept generating them for weeks after, because I had a list of past clients to email. None of that happens without the list existing first.

Email marketing isn’t declining, and it isn’t outdated. (Still.) It’s still one of the few marketing channels you actually own, and it’s still converting at a rate social media can’t touch, 20-30% open rates against the 1-3% of people who see any single post.

So the question isn’t really whether email marketing is still worth it in 2026. It’s whether you’re actually using it yet.

I made it easy for you to set your own list up the right way: Grab my free 37-minute masterclass and I’ll walk you through exactly how I built mine here.

You don’t need a huge list to see results like these. You need a list that’s yours, and the willingness to actually email it.
