Today we’re talking about how to write the perfect Instagram bio for your business. 70% of my revenue comes straight from Instagram, and it’s something I’ve invested a lot of time into. Most creative entrepreneurs know their bio is important to attract people, but they don’t know how to make it ‘good’.
Well, get ready to learn! The truth is, your Instagram bio is a mini elevator pitch that tells people everything they need to know about you in four lines or less. It IS important. Getting it right can make a huge difference in your engagement and your sales. So, let’s dive into how to write the perfect bio for your business.
For more details on how to put these bio tips into action, try my customized Instagram Audit! These include a personalized video and report reviewing your entire profile and two posts. We’ll identify sticking points and how to sell more in the bio. Your audit will make implementing what I talk about in this blog, easy.
What to Consider Before Writing Your Instagram Bio
Before we get in too deep, let’s go over what you need to know before writing your bio. Your Instagram bio is your first impression – your digital business card. It’s only a few words, but you need to make them work hard for you. Think of it as your tiny, yet mighty salesman, drawing people in with every word.
To nail this, consider:
What sums you up?: You only have few seconds to tell someone who you are and why they should care. What do you say? Keep it concise and only mention the most important thing.
What action do you want them to take?: Your bio should tell people to a clear next step. Do you want them to visit your website, book a consultation, or check out your latest offerings? Make your Call-To-Action obvious and irresistible.
Who is your audience?: Picture your ideal client. What do they need most from you? What are their pain points? Create a message that speaks directly to them, making them feel seen and understood. (We’re still going for ‘short and stand out,’ here!)
Remember, while your bio can be the first thing people see, it IS the last thing people see before deciding to slip into your DMs or go to your website. So make those 150 characters count!
The Perfect Instagram Bio for Business Needs to Cover
Profile Photo
Your profile photo is your first impression. People see that even before clicking onto your profile. Choose a clear, high-quality image that screams “This is me!” Whether it’s your logo or a professional headshot, make sure it’s instantly recognizable and aligns with your brand’s vibe.
Name Field
Your name field is prime real estate for keywords. Think about what your audience is searching for and incorporate those words here. Instead of just “Jane Doe,” go for something like “Jane Doe | Brand Strategist.”
Your Instagram Bio & Links
Your Instagram bio should be a concise, clever summary of who you are, what you do, and your ideal customer’s pain points. Use the guidelines I gave you ^ to craft a few different versions to test out. Include your Call-To-Action and make sure you add only the necessary links. Too many links can overwhelm people.
Profile Highlights
Profile Highlights help sell you if someone is creeping on your profile. Keep your trips and personal life to a minimum. Instead, curate these little areas to get people to know your brand, happy customers, and showcase what you offer. They’re the perfect way to keep your best content always visible and working for you.
