People often underestimate the power of attending conferences, but as a small business owner, I can attest that they are pivotal for developing your business and developing as a person. In fact, I believe this so strongly that I include it in my annual marketing budget. I try to attend at least one conference a year and one local networking event each month. I always tell my students they need to get in the room for the opportunities, and ya girl practices what I preach!
Recently, I attended and spoke at the Creative Educator Conference in Dallas, TX. This event was designed for high-level business owners ready to elevate their educational offerings, whether through course creation, coaching, speaking, or hosting events. This isn’t your average conference; it offers hands-on experience and action-based education.
Three things that I loved most about the conference:
- An Opportunity to Speak: I was given the chance to deliver a 5-minute lightning speech on networking on stage, in front of 100 of my peers. This was excellent practice because, as you know, I want to be a keynote speaker on big stages someday. The feedback from the attendees was incredible, emphasizing how actionable my presentation was. I plan to take the stage more in 2025.
- Open Sharing Culture: Everyone at the conference was willing to share freely with one another. There was no gatekeeping, which is crucial because it fosters true learning and mutual elevation. Even thehe conference speakers were warm and welcoming. They stayed for the entire conference, which allowed for deeper connections. Unlike other events where speakers leave after their sessions, the lobby chats here were the highlight, offering powerful casual conversations each night. Only those who were there can truly understand the vibe.
- Fostering Community: The conference provided valuable learning opportunities and fostered a strong sense of community. We were all eager to stay connected, leading to the creation of a group chat and regular co-working sessions on Zoom. I discovered a supportive entrepreneurial family I didn’t even know I needed. The people I met at this conference will become lifelong friends and supporters of my business, and I am forever grateful for that.
